Nzi Trapping Research Resources

This special area of the Nzitrap.com web site contains highly technical information of interest to entomological researchers familiar with publications on the Nzi trap. Only minimal explanatory information is provided. It can only be reached through the link at the bottom of the home page, or by moving among the links in the research area navigation bar below.

bullet

This page contains key data on fabrics and their spectral characteristics, an entomological literature database, and a compendium of raw data for historical trapping.

bullet

The Fabric Resources page contains a detailed guide to many fabrics of interest to entomologists, a guide to quality assurance, and several research tools.

bullet

The Meta--Analysis page contains a database of trap performance statistics relative to a phthalogen blue cotton Nzi trap, and a summary of the information collated to date. This is a work "in progress" for journal publication. Data may be updated at any time.

The RED links below are password protected. They contain raw research data and analyses on the performance of the Nzi and other traps. To request access to these pages or any other raw data supporting past publications contact smihok@rogers.com.

Fabrics
(1,384k)
  [see note]
ACCESS - Fabric / material descriptions, use the form FABRICMASTER to get the characteristics of each item. Colour Indices and spectra are integrated into this database only for a few entries; these can be calculated using the Colorimetry Calculator in Fabric Resources.

FabricMaster
(1,078k)
EXCEL - The same information in an alternative spreadsheet format, written out from the ACCESS database Fabrics.
Spectra
(6,466k)
EXCEL - Material reflectance and/or transmittance spectra for fabrics, netting, plastics, and other materials (paints) as indexed in the ACCESS database Fabrics. Additional useful spectra that have not been collated can be found in Fabric Resources.

MihokRefs

RTF
(1,286k)
RTF - Rich Text Format, this file can be opened with Word Processing programs. It contains formatted text.
TEXT
(876k)
Plain Text Format, this file can be opened by a Text Editor. Special characters may not always be represented correctly.

Nzi Trials
(5,522k)
EXCEL - Raw Nzi trapping data. This master file is a compendium of standardized Nzi trapping trials extracted from a historical data archive in REFLEX (Borland Database). It contains all trials amenable to a meta-analysis from work conducted in the 1990s.
Recent Trials
(433k)
EXCEL - Raw Nzi trapping data for three recent experiments. This file contains three similar experiments from North America that are being maintained in a different format in ACCESS (Microsoft Database).
Data Form
(34k)
WORD - Original datasheet - this is the form that was used to record trapping information in REFLEX the 1990's. Use this file to understand the species and other variable codes in the EXCEL file.

Acknowledgements

Much of this information was collected through collaborative research.
The final assembly and annotation of data has been an ongoing personal effort for ten years.

Completion of this exercise was greatly facilitated by the encouragement and support of Dr. David Carlson from the USDA-ARS-CMAVE  in Gainesville, Florida.

The key people involved throughout the years are listed below.
